This is how it works
Satellite and
AI technology at the service
of forestry
Our work is powered by GIS (Geographic Information System) technology. ESA Satellites such as Sentinel-2 and Landsat capture multi-spectral images of the Earth using sensors that detect both visible light and invisible infrared.
This information reveals details like vegetation health, land use, and water presence.
We process this satellite data in GIS software and use AI to turn it into practical, easy-to-use tools for landowners and forestry professionals.
The Vitality Signal
Our vitality signal uses satellite images to detect how healthy your trees are. Special sensors on satellites can “see” what the human eye can’t, including tiny changes in leaf color and light reflection that happen when trees are stressed by drought, pests, or disease.
With the help of AI, we turn this data into easy-to-read maps that show you where attention is needed, so you can plan inspections, take action early, and protect your forest more efficiently.
We recently launched the Germany-wide Vitality Map, a pioneering project that highlights the most critical challenges facing German forests thanks to signals that detect level of vitality (low/high stress).
Why is this important?
The vitality map can be used by forest owners, foresters, service providers or associations to plan forest inspections more efficiently.
They can mark on the map in advance where they need to observe and navigate to a selected location. This saves a lot of time. The data also helps with decision-making processes for forestry measures.
For example, if you were able to identify drought stress early on with the map, you can cut fresh wood instead of beetle wood and thus save €20-30 per cubic metre.
