The tree species map and the height model for sustainable forest management
Reading time approx. 4 minutes
Here we explain how you can use the new tree species map and the height model of the WoodsApp to manage your forest more efficiently, save costs and promote the health of your forest at the same time. We also explain exactly what these functions offer and how the underlying data is collected and processed.
The tree species map

The new tree species map in WoodsApp gives you a clear picture of the distribution of the different tree species in your forest. This function was developed to help forest owners and forestry experts analyze and plan their forest – simply, clearly and efficiently.
What does the
tree species map provide?
The tree species map shows you on a map exactly where which tree species grow in your forest. Each tree species is represented by a specific color so that you can quickly understand the distribution. Thanks to this function, you gain a deep understanding of the structure and composition of your forest.
Your advantages at a glance
-
Precise overview:
Get a precise overview of the tree diversity in your forest. -
Optimized care planning:
Identify areas with monocultures or mixed stands and plan targeted measures for forest management. -
Promoting forest health:
Identify potentially vulnerable areas and support biodiversity through targeted interventions. -
Efficiency in funding applications:
Use the card as a basis to prove the requirements for subsidized measures.
The innovative height model of the tree species

Discover a completely new perspective on your forest with WoodsApp! Our new map layer, the height model of the tree species, offers you unique insights into the structure of your forest and numerous advantages for your forest management.
(The federal states of NRW and Bavaria marked with the tree icon have an accuracy of 0.5 m thanks to the Bitapps data source; the accuracy of the other areas is 1 m)
What is the height model of tree species?
The height model visualizes the height structures of the different tree species in your forest on a map. Thanks to intuitive color coding, you can see at a glance which areas have trees of different heights and can use this information directly for your decisions.
Your advantages at a glance
-
Recognize the need for care:
Identify specific areas that require care measures to promote the growth of your trees. -
Increase growth:
Targeted interventions improve growth and increase the long-term economic yield of your forest. -
Efficient planning:
Plan measures such as thinning, planting or damage repair more effectively with precise height information. -
Sustainable forest management:
Use the data to make well-founded and resource-saving decisions for the future of your forest.
